I recently met a man I’m extremely fond of. He happens to be a trained gourmet chef. He can cook anything and everything…me on the other hand, can not! The thought of ever having to cook for him was not something I looked forward to. My insecurity of not measuring up was a thought that certainly had passed through my mind a few times. That being said, I was simply excited to review one of Chef Shellie Kark’s KitchenCUE DVD’s. She graciously sent me a copy of Volume 1: Saute and Pan Sauce, two things I really didn’t understand how to prepare.
I was thrilled when I watched her DVD. It was like having a personal one-on-one lesson with a professional chef. Chef Shellie walks you through step-by-step how to prepare a ‘training recipe’. She then provides you with numerous other recipes to reinforce the techniques you just learned. She provides the recipe as a video and explains very clearly various tips and tricks the professionals use. I never knew how to check for doneness of meat without having to cut it up and drying it out in the process. I now feel comfortable in my ability to cook various types of meat and seafood by touch.
I was simply amazed at how much information Shellie includes on each and every DVD. To give you an idea, every DVD includes:
- An educational Training Recipe designed to be used in the kitchen as you cook along side Shellie, a professional chef so you can immediately grasp the techniques.
- A dozen or so unique Reinforcing Recipes to be used to help solidify your technique.
- Guidelines for ingredients that go together. This is the Well Matched section where you just pick the ingredients you like and apply the technique. You can make hundreds of dishes using this one technique!
- A bounty of information on What to Drink; food and wine pairing, an interview with a sommelier and quick reference charts.
- Video on getting organized in your kitchen; buying and sharpening knives and equipment information that is relative to the DVD subject matter.
If you have ever wanted to take a cooking class or simply brush up on your cooking skills, immediately order one of the KitchenCUE DVD’s! There are 3 volumes to choose from: Volume 1~Saute & Pan Sauce, Volume 2~Soups & Stocks, and Volume 3~Roasting. You will love them and will gain the confidence to cook anything with the techniques provided. Hands down a fantastic value for the money.
